When she was 30, while on duty and attending a road traffic incident, she fell 50ft off a motorway flyover, breaking nearly everything from the waist down and sustaining a head injury. Sarah spent months in hospital learning to walk again and, after a year, she went back to work. However, as she needed ongoing surgery, she retired from the Fire Brigade.

During this period, she started to study Horticulture and began doing Pilates to improve her strength. As a result, she is now fitter and stronger than ever. She has done several long-distance swims for charity. The first was a two-way Lake Windermere swim (21 miles), which she did for CARAT, a Greek animal rescue involved with neutering, education, and donkey rescue. She has also swum the Channel for Blind Dog Rescue UK, and her last two-way Channel swim was to raise awareness of The National Coastwatch Institution. Beyond this, she loves doing SwinRun – a relatively new adventure sport where you are attached to your teammate with a bungee cord and swim and run from point to point over beautiful scenery.

She is passionate about animal rescue and has raised wild mice, baby rabbits, and pigeons. Sarah also fosters for Blind Dog Rescue UK and currently has a blind Pug and an elderly dachshund at home. She also cares for a tame pigeon who lives in her kitchen.

Useful Links

[222
326,324,272,325,327
328,329
post-687","guest","type-guest","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","guest_name-sarah-cotton","specialism-animal-rescue","specialism-gardening","specialism-inspirational-speaking","specialism-pidgeons","specialism-swimming","interests-fostering-animals","interests-swimrum
["GET
