Emily graduated with her BSc(Hons) Veterinary Nursing in 2017. After working in first
opinion small animal practice during this time, in 2018 she decided to move to a multi-
disciplinary referral hospital where she found her love for anaesthesia but also how nurses can do so much more with their role and be empowered!
In 2018 she also started her social media The EmPowering RVN where she shared her
journey becoming an RVN and also her ups and down with her mental health.
In 2021 she took the skills she had developed from creating content online and her passion for helping others to launch her business, EmPowering Media Services, to help veterinary businesses take back their time and create consistent content.
Exotics or NTCAs: What should you call the ‘weird’ pets?

You may have heard us mention these types of animals on Veterinary Ramblings before: they include hedgehogs, sugar gliders, and many other small furry friends – often called ‘exotic’.
But why do we call them exotic? Is this term really accurate? And what does it mean for owners of these animals?
